Job summary

Code Metal, Inc. is seeking a backend software engineer to help build the Python services, pipelines, and tooling that drive the core wargaming simulation for a DoD-focused platform.

You will design and implement backend services, APIs, and data interfaces that connect with the frontend, other simulators, and analysts. The role emphasizes scalable cloud architectures, strong SDLC practices, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders across government and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering experience in enterprise software.
• Experience delivering Python-based solutions to a large customer base.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized apps.
• Experience gathering requirements from stakeholders and distilling them into software designs.
• Eligible to obtain/maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
• Experience building scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
• Familiarity with cloud services and distributed architectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop Python services, pipelines, and tooling for wargaming simulations.
• Design backend services and APIs that interface with frontend and multiple simulators.
• Build cloud-scale infrastructure for reproducible simulations across environments.
• Mentor teammates and provide architectural guidance across the stack.
• Ensure robust SDLC practices and code quality in AI-integrated workflows.
