payabl. is seeking a Senior Python Backend Developer (Services) to evolve our service layer architecture. This role focuses on building reliable, scalable microservices while transforming legacy systems into modern Python-based services.

The position demands hands-on engineering excellence, strong problem-solving, and a commitment to correctness, resilience, and long-term maintainability. Remote from Poland with contractor arrangement and reporting to Engineering Lead.

Formación

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Python
• Deep knowledge of AsyncIO and FastAPI
• Experience building non-blocking, high-reliability microservices
• Strong experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL
• Solid understanding of API design and third-party integrations
• Experience implementing webhooks and retry strategies
• Strong testing practices (unit and integration)
• Ability to work with legacy systems and migrate them into modern architectures
• Ownership mindset and autonomous work style

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance Python microservices (FastAPI, AsyncIO)
• Analyze legacy systems and extract business logic into modern architectures
• Refactor and migrate modules into clean, scalable services
• Ensure system reliability through idempotency and fault tolerance
• Design and integrate external APIs with robust error handling
• Implement and manage webhooks, callbacks, and retries
• Write high-quality unit and integration tests
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for stability and performance
• Contribute to architectural discussions and improvements
• Own services end-to-end from design to production
