Job summary

Munich Re invites a Senior/Staff Software Engineer with strong Python backend expertise to join the alitheia team in New York. You will design scalable APIs and services powering data-driven risk assessment workflows in life insurance applications.

You will collaborate with data scientists, underwriters and product managers to shape API architecture, optimize performance, and evolve the product with ML and LLM capabilities. Hybrid schedule from NYC office is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics or related field.
• Professional backend Python development experience.
• Strong SDLC understanding and code quality practices.
• Experience with API design tools and frameworks such as Swagger, OpenAPI and FastAPI.
• Experience with cloud computing and Kubernetes or similar orchestration tools.
• Experience with Docker and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and ORMs (SQLAlchemy).
• Experience with load testing and backend performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Shape API architecture for real-time decisioning using complex medical data.
• Collaborate with data scientists, underwriters, customer success and product managers to deliver the roadmap.
• Optimize backend performance and scale for large health data volumes.
• Adapt product as ML models and LLMs evolve.
• Write maintainable code, unit and integration tests, and automate testing.
• Participate in code reviews and improve development practices.
