Job summary

Munich Reinsurance America, Inc in New York City is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer with deep Python backend expertise to build scalable APIs powering data-driven life insurance risk solutions. You will join a small, high-impact team developing an advanced medical risk assessment platform.

You’ll collaborate with data scientists, underwriters, product managers and customer success to shape the product roadmap and ensure performance, security and scalability as machine learning models

Qualifications

• Professional experience developing backend software with Python.
• Experience with API design tools and frameworks such as Swagger, OpenAPI and FastAPI.
• Experience with cloud computing and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Experience with containerization using Docker.
• Experience with relational databases and ORM libraries such as SQLAlchemy.
• Load testing and latency profiling to optimize backend performance.

Responsibilities

• Help shape API architecture for real-time decisioning using complex medical data.
• Collaborate with data scientists, underwriters, customer success partners and product managers to deliver the product roadmap.
• Optimize backend performance and scalability for large volumes of health data.
• Adapt the product as ML models and large language models evolve.
• Build maintainable software, write unit and integration tests, and implement automated testing.
• Participate in code reviews and improve development practices.
