Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Python backend engineer to design, develop and maintain modular services and REST APIs for the EDGE V4 Calculation Engine. The role requires deep expertise in Python, FastAPI, Pydantic, and SQL, with a focus on scalable, secure, and production-quality code.

You will translate building science formulas into robust Python components, build reusable libraries, and ensure API contracts, validation, and authentication are solid across services.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional Python backend development
• Experience designing REST APIs with FastAPI
• Proficient in PyTest or equivalent testing frameworks

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance and support modular Python services and REST APIs for the EDGE V4 Calculation Engine.
• Translate validated formulas into accurate Python components and data models.
• Develop and integrate calculation capabilities for energy, water, materials, and carbon-related functions.
• Build reusable calculation libraries, data models, validation rules, and configuration services using Python, FastAPI, Pydantic and SQL.
• Integrate services with EDGE V4 via well-defined API contracts, inputs/outputs, authentication and error handling.
• Optimize performance, database queries, caching, asynchronous processing and scalability for global usage.
• Create and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, regression, API) using PyTest.
• Maintain documentation, API specs, data dictionaries, deployment notes and runbooks.
• Participate in design reviews, backlog refinement, sprint ceremonies, releases and post-deployment support.
• Implement production-grade logging, monitoring, auditability, exception handling and retries.
