Job summary

The People Co. in Dunmore, PA is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement for ingredients, raw materials, packaging and production supplies, ensuring uninterrupted operations.

You will negotiate with suppliers, monitor inventory, lead times, and pricing, and develop risk strategies to mitigate shortages and cost volatility. Five+ years of purchasing experience in food manufacturing is expected; a strong track record in supplier relationships is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of purchasing/procurement experience in a food manufacturing, CPG, or related environment.
• Experience purchasing ingredients, proteins, raw materials, packaging, commodities or production supplies.
• Experience negotiating supplier pricing, contracts, terms, and service agreements.
• Understanding of food manufacturing supply chains, production requirements, inventory management, and supplier lead times.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing of ingredients, raw materials, packaging, and production supplies to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
• Work with Production and Warehouse teams to ensure materials are available in required quantities and timelines.
• Monitor inventory levels, forecasts, lead times, and purchasing schedules to optimize inventory and avoid shortages or excess stock.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, ensuring pricing, quality, delivery schedules, service, and payment terms.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, freight arrangements, and other commercial conditions with suppliers.
• Evaluate suppliers based on cost, quality, capacity, reliability, food-safety requirements, and service.
• Coordinate onboarding of new suppliers, including pricing agreements, credit setup, specifications, quality documentation, and approvals.
• Monitor supplier performance and address quality concerns, delivery issues, shortages, or damaged materials.
• Track ingredient and commodity pricing and identify market trends impacting costs and margins.
• Research market conditions and communicate potential price increases, supply constraints, and procurement risks to management.
• Develop purchasing and supply-risk strategies to mitigate shortages, price volatility, supplier disruptions.
