Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Senior Carpenter to perform general building construction, preventative maintenance, and repairs across about 180 city facilities. The role includes PM inspections and tasks like ceiling tile replacement, carpet/base repairs, and display hanging.

Qualifications include a High School diploma with 5 years of experience, strong blueprint reading, and the ability to read diagrams. OSHA-based safety awareness and proficiency with Microsoft Office are expected.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of background, experience, and skills necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
• Mastery of skills in journey level construction work and knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and practices of the building construction trade.
• Experience working in local government and public safety facilities.
• Ability to read blue prints and diagrams.
• Ability to use the Microsoft Suite and a computer-based work order management system.

Responsibilities

• Perform building construction work including cabinet making, metal stud framing, ceiling and acoustical tile installation, drywall installation/finishing, and door jamb installation.
• Repair and maintain building hardware as needed.
• Repair and install plastic laminate, toilet partitions, and accessories.
• Read diagrams and perform cost estimates as needed.
• Maintain records/timesheets and document duties performed on the job.
