Job summary

Neogen Corporation in Michigan is seeking a Protein Chemist III to expand and optimize reagent development and quality testing. The role emphasizes GMP/ISO-compliant processes, data-driven decision making, and collaboration with manufacturing teams.

You will contribute to new product transfers, troubleshoot processes, and mentor staff while maintaining safety and documentation standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS degree in Protein Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biological Science, Immunology, Microbiology, Food Science, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of research, laboratory, manufacturing experience; knowledge of cGMPs and ISO desirable.
  • Experience in protein characterization, organic synthesis, bioanalytical assay development, data analysis, and presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate reagents from stock under SMP/SOP guidance.
  • Conduct chemical reactions for reagent development per SMP/SOP.
  • Work with hazardous mycotoxin powders using PPE and glove box.
  • Handle flours from food commodities to detect allergenic proteins.
  • Perform in-process quality testing and product release testing per SMP/SOP.
  • Follow ISO guidelines in reagent manufacture.
  • Use GMP and GDP in reagent manufacture.
  • Participate in raw material qualification validation and verification.
  • Lead troubleshooting for product failures and process improvements.
  • Assist with inventory management and lab supplies.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas using lean and 5S.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate basic equipment.
  • Adhere to safety rules and PPE usage, disposal of materials.
  • Plan preparatory processes for scheduled manufacturing duties.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance of specialized equipment.
  • Participate in new product transfers.
  • Generate and analyze data for material qualification and release testing.
  • Prepare and present data reports; sign off batch records.
  • Train new staff on processes, procedures, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Provide cross-team support in supervisor/manager absence.
  • Attend meetings and support interdepartmental communication.
  • Review and update batch records; propose document updates.
  • Submit Non-Conforming Material Reports to committees.
  • Schedule throughput for manufacturing, troubleshooting, and experiments.
  • Comply with corporate policies and productivity/quality goals.
