Job summary

Invenergy LLC, headquartered in Chicago, seeks a Senior Operations Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership for protection and control systems supporting renewable generation, substations and gen tie facilities.

You will lead relay settings, event analysis, and coordination for inverter-based resources across wind, solar, and battery storage assets, while guiding EE1-EE3 engineers and collaborating with asset management teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or similar major.
• 5+ years of work experience in protection & control, power systems, substations, or renewable energy applications.
• Demonstrated experience in protection & control of HV systems.
• Experience with SEL products & tools.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Some travel is required.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead technical resource for protection & control across high voltage substations and renewable plants, supporting outage investigations and reliability improvements.
• Provide technical support for regulatory and compliance requirements PRC-028, PRC-029, PRC-030 related to protection systems, including event reporting and corrective actions.
• Lead NERC PRC compliance efforts, including coordination, settings validation, and performance monitoring for PRC standards.
• Lead protection coordination and relay settings strategy across the fleet, aligning with studies and interconnection requirements.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives, including fleet-wide procedure development and vendor/consultant onboarding.
• Develop, review, and maintain protection philosophies, relay settings, and coordination strategies.
• Mentor EE1-EE3 engineers and site teams in relay protection and NERC interpretation.
• Represent Invenergy in external forums and with utilities and regulators.
