Job summary

Dallas County is seeking an experienced attorney to perform advanced legal work including litigation, research, and drafting of complex documents. The role requires supervising and making tactical decisions in assigned cases and may involve prosecuting high-level felonies in court.

The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited law school, licensed to practice in Texas, with at least 2.5 years of practice and leadership experience as a prosecutor or in civil/appellate work.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a current license to practice law in Texas.
• Two (2) years and six (6) months of experience practicing law.
• Experience as lead prosecutor for all levels of felony offenses or extensive appellate work is required.
• Current license to practice law in Texas is required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate criminal complaints to decide whether to prosecute and what charges to file.
• Draft, file and respond to motions, briefs, and other legal documents for trial or hearings.
• Conduct interviews, gather evidence, perform necessary legal research, and interview witnesses.
• Represent the State in pre-trial hearings, trials, and evidentiary hearings; communicate with defense counsel, court personnel, victims and families.
• Negotiate settlements or plea bargains, and obtain approvals when needed.
• Manage court docket and case schedules to ensure deadlines are met; maintain accurate records.
• Train or assist in training less senior attorneys as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
