Job summary

Office of the New York City Comptroller seeks a Claim Specialist to supervise the daily work of claim specialists within the Bureau of Law & Adjustment. You will coordinate staff, review claims, and determine accurate settlements or disallowances, while guiding performance and maintaining diary reviews.

As part of the Property Damage Division, you will interact with claimants, the Law Department, agencies, and insurers, prepare reports, and support investigations of high-profile cases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with options listed in the qualifications.
• Experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss as specified.
• Combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily work of claim specialists and review staff submissions for completeness.
• Guide staff performance, set tasks, and conduct diary reviews.
• Investigate high-profile claims and draft reports or memoranda when required.
• Communicate professionally with claimants, agencies, attorneys, and insurers.
• Approve/disapprove recommendations in coordination with the Law Department and other offices.
• Interact with engineering, auditing, and fiscal staff to support settlements.
• Provide regular activity reports to the Assistant Chief Division Chief.
