Job summary

Thor is seeking a Senior Projects Director to lead our Building Engineering team in New York. The role blends deep mechanical/electrical expertise with strategic client development to expand Thor's footprint in the New York property market.

You will oversee major projects from proposal to delivery, drive work-winning efforts, and provide senior technical leadership while mentoring junior engineers and strengthening client relationships.

Qualifications

• New York PE license or willingness to obtain within 12 months.

I’m supporting a leading global engineering consultancy with the appointment of a Senior Projects Director / Property Market Leader to join their growing Building Engineering team in New York.

This is a senior opportunity for a Project Director with a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background with strong experience across the New York property market, combining technical expertise with client relationships, business development, work-winning and project leadership.

The Role

You will help grow the firm's presence across the New York property market, working with senior leadership and multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities, win work and deliver major projects.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead business development and work-winning across the New York property market
• Develop and maintain senior client relationships
• Identify opportunities across Commercial Real Estate, Hospitality, Residential, Arts & Culture, Higher Education, Science and Government
• Lead proposals, bids and client presentations
• Act as Project Director on key projects, overseeing programme, budget, commercial performance and client satisfaction
• Provide senior technical and strategic leadership across Mechanical or Electrical engineering projects
• Manage technical, commercial and contractual risks
• Collaborate across disciplines and offices to deliver the right solutions for clients
• Develop junior engineers in client management and work-winning
• Build the firm's profile across the New York property sector

What we're looking for

• 15+ years' experience in building engineering / MEP consulting
• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• New York PE licence, or willingness to obtain within 12 months
• Proven track record of winning and delivering projects
• Established client network within the New York property market
• Experience with major property, commercial real estate or institutional clients
• Strong commercial awareness and experience with proposals, bids and contracts
• Knowledge of New York City building codes and standards
• Strong leadership, communication and relationship-building skills

Desirable: NCEES certification and/or LEED accreditation.
