Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Raleigh, NC seeks a Project Technical Engineer to shape the future of the grid by delivering Grid Quality Solutions across North America. You will manage technical work through full project lifecycles—design, construction, and commissioning—collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and partners to strengthen grid stability and safety.

The role emphasizes protection engineering, relay settings, and substation automation with adherence to standards and cyber security

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical/ mechanical engineering or related field is required.
Experience with protection diagrams, philosophy and architecture preferred.
Knowledge of substation protection relays, arc flash and protection settings is expected.
Familiarity with NEC/IEEE standards and cyber security basics is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead secondary engineering activities for AIS and GIS projects from 69kV to 765kV.
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
Develop control and protection scope documents and deliverables.
Serve as primary technical contact for Secondary Engineering.
Support installation and commissioning during construction phases.
Evaluate risks and implement mitigation with the Project Manager.
Drive proposals with innovative, cost-effective solutions.
Create base and detailed design drawings per customer requirements.
Develop new solutions for complex projects and proposals.
Lead all engineering activities to completion on projects.
