Job summary

Spheros Environmental seeks a Senior Project Manager – Hydrogeologist to lead hydrogeologic and water resource projects in AZ and the Southwest. You will manage scopes, budgets, schedules, and client engagements while mentoring junior staff and ensuring technical excellence.

Hybrid work arrangement with travel up to 5% and opportunities to impact projects across the United States.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of hydrogeology and/or water resources experience.
  • Arizona Registered Geologist (RG) license or ability to obtain quickly.
  • Bachelor’s in geology or hydrogeology; Master’s preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with specialized tools.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Experience with groundwater evaluations, well siting, and aquifer recharge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hydrogeologic and water resource projects from concept through completion.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Negotiate and review contracts with the lead Senior PM.
  • Oversee multiple projects, ensuring quality and timeliness.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical oversight for deliverables prepared by junior staff.
  • Coach and provide feedback to support career development.
  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive work environment.

Brief Description
  • Senior Project Manager – Hydrogeologist

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Compensation: $120,000 - $180,000 annually

Spheros Environmental is seeking a passionate and highly technical Senior Project Manager – Hydrogeologist to join our team. This position supports our Water Resources Department leadership, focusing on technical project execution and staff mentorship. The ideal candidate brings hydrogeologic expertise and project management experience.

You will support a range of projects in Arizona and across the Southwest, and collaborate on initiatives throughout the United States.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Lead hydrogeologic and water resource projects from concept through completion.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Negotiate and review contracts in collaboration with the lead Senior PM.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality and timeliness.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Solve complex technical problems individually and collaboratively with regional team members.
Client Engagement and Business Development
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with public, private, and industrial clients.
  • Support the preparation of proposals and scopes of work.
  • Help clients define problems, evaluate options, and implement tailored, data-driven solutions.
Team Collaboration
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control for deliverables prepared by junior staff.
  • Offer coaching and regular feedback to support career development and skill-building.
  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive work environment.
  • Support onboarding and integration of new hires.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 12+ years of experience in hydrogeology and/or water resources.
  • Licensure/Certification: An Arizona Registered (Professional) Geologist (RG) certification, or the ability to promptly obtain certification.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in geology or hydrogeology (or related field, Master's degree preferred)
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Familiarity with tools such as MODFLOW, Leapfrog Works, AqteSolv, ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, Python, and/or database software
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience with groundwater resource evaluations, high-capacity well siting, wellfield design, hydrogeologic investigations, managed aquifer recharge, aquifer storage and recovery
  • Valid Driver's license with a good driving record
