The Senior Estimator / Project Manager is responsible for leading the full lifecycle of projects involving mass grading, underground utilities, and structural or site demolition. This dual role position combines preconstruction estimating with post award project management, ensuring accurate bid preparation, effective project planning, and successful field execution. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, highly organized, and experienced in managing complex heavy civil scopes within the Minnesota market.
Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for excavation, utility installation including sanitary, water, and storm, and demolition scopes
Interpret civil and site plans, geotechnical reports, specifications, and MnDOT and municipal standards
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes, prepare scope sheets and bid comparisons
Prepare bid proposals with thorough breakdowns of labor, equipment, materials, and overhead
Participate in value engineering, pre bid site visits, and constructability reviews
Maintain historical cost data and unit pricing to support accurate forecasting
Transition awarded projects from estimating to operations with detailed project handoff documentation
Develop and manage baseline schedules, submittals, RFIs, purchase orders, and subcontract agreements
Collaborate with Superintendents to ensure field work aligns with budget, schedule, and quality expectations
Monitor job cost reports and proactively address budget variances or scope changes
Lead owner and contractor meetings, track pay applications, and manage change orders and claims
Ensure compliance with SWPPP, utility coordination, and safety requirements throughout the project
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, municipalities, and vendors
Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Mentor junior estimators or assistant project managers as needed
Uphold company reputation through professional conduct, communication, and follow through
Extensive experience in civil construction estimating and project management
Proficient in sitework, utilities both deep and shallow, and demolition means and methods
Extensive knowledge of MnDOT, city, county, and private development specifications
Proficiency with Bid2Win or HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam Revu, Excel, and project management software such as Procore or Viewpoint
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent field experience preferred
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites across Minnesota
Hybrid office and field role with regular site visits
Standard work hours with flexibility during bid deadlines or peak activity
Occasional physical walkthroughs of active or rough graded construction sites
Accurate bids that win profitable work aligned with company capabilities
On time and on budget project delivery with minimal rework or disputes
Well documented job files and cost tracking that support transparency and decision making
