Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools is seeking a Senior Project Manager (CIP) to coordinate non-capacity capital development projects. You will oversee renovations, roof and kitchen modernization, and envelope repairs, guiding projects from planning through construction to meet schedule and budget.

Reporting to the Director of Educational Facilities, you’ll manage budgets, engage with city and school stakeholders, and lead a team of staff and consultants to deliver the 10-year modernization program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, facilities-related engineering (mechanical, electrical, energy, etc.), urban planning, real estate, architectural design, or related fields.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in design and building construction; public schools experience preferred.
  • Experience with civic offices and public engagement in construction projects.
  • Knowledge of design and construction laws, codes, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director to carry out the capital improvement plan by providing management oversight of strategies to deliver CIP within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Directs day-to-day coordination and integration of the ACPS CIP non-capacity work including planning, real estate development, related studies, and design/engineering/construction program of educational facilities.
  • Oversees complex renovation and construction projects with budgets, schedules, and changes as identified by the Director.
  • Collaborates with ACPS departments, schools, and offices to ensure CIP supports academic and capacity objectives and complies with policies and requirements.
  • Provides guidance to Senior Leadership Team, consultants, and partners on plan matters.
  • Develops periodic technical, schedule, and financial reports for design and construction phases.
  • Coordinates meetings to manage administrative, support, and technical program requirements.
  • Manages staff, consultants, contractors, and agencies to expedite planning, design, and construction.
  • Coordinates with city agencies for building permits issuance.
  • Monitors progress and keeps records to ensure contract compliance.
  • Facilitates weekly progress meetings and provides minutes.
