Job summary

American Electric Power in Columbus, OH seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead complex projects in a matrix team. You’ll plan, execute, monitor and close programs with focus on safety, cost control, and customer satisfaction.

You’ll direct multi-discipline teams, manage budgets and schedules, and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders. PMP preferred; travel up to 50% possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or related field with ten years of qualified experience; OR Associate’s degree with twelve years; OR High School Diploma with fourteen years.
• Three years as PROJECT MANAGER PRINCIPAL (Grade 9) preferred or demonstrated competence in a shorter timeline.
• Experience in project management, major construction, project controls, estimating, contracting, and a competitive production environment.
• Mastery in PM knowledge areas including safety, cost control, scheduling, and risk management.
• Experience in utilities, nuclear power, and/or IT systems is favorable.
• PMP certification required unless waived by SVP or OPCO President.
• Valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and manage project activities using Waterfall or Agile methods.
• Ensure safety focus under the AEP System Safety Process and Zero Harm.
• Manage project plans, schedules, budgets, tools, and staff; optimize funding.
• Communicate status and lead planning updates with detailed stakeholder presentations.
• Develop relationships with teams, customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Provide guidance and training to improve design, processes, schedules and costs.
• Represent AEP with industrial customers, vendors and regulators as needed.
• Align projects to AEP PM standards and drive best practices.
