Job summary

Carrier Johnson + Culture (CJ+C) seeks a Senior Project Manager / Architect with deep civic and higher education experience to lead complex public and institutional projects in California from planning through construction.

You will build trusted client relationships, guide multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the growth of our San Diego practice, ensuring projects are on time, on budget, and aligned with client goals.

Qualifications

• Licensed architect required.
• California licensure strongly preferred.
• 12+ years of professional experience in civic/higher education or similar complex public projects in California.
• Experience leading RFQ/RFP pursuits for public sector work, including design-build or other delivery methods.
• Strong knowledge of California Building Code, accessibility, and public agency permitting and approvals.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Oversee project delivery across all phases with scope, schedule, budget, and resources.
• Serve as primary client interface, engaging public-sector leadership and stakeholders.
• Coordinate internal teams and external consultants for integrated design and technical solutions.
• Guide projects through regulatory approvals, permitting, and public agency processes (DSA where applicable).
• Lead RFQ/RFP pursuits for civic/higher-education work including alternative delivery methods.
• Oversee construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, site visits, and field coordination.
