Job summary

Carrier Johnson + Culture (CJ+C) seeks a Senior Project Architect in Los Angeles to lead the technical development and delivery of complex projects, from design through construction administration. You will mentor teams, coordinate with design leaders and clients, and ensure buildable, high-performance environments for education and civic projects.

Qualifications

• Licensed Architect or pursuing licensure in California.
• 12+ years of professional experience, with emphasis on higher education and civic projects.
• Strong technical expertise in building systems, detailing, and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Solid knowledge of California Building Code, accessibility requirements, and local permitting processes (DSA preferred).
• Advanced ability to lead technical coordination across teams and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development and coordination of projects through schematic design to construction administration.
• Develop and oversee construction documents with clarity and coordination to align with design intent.
• Coordinate internal teams and external consultants across architectural, structural, MEP, and specialty systems.
• Guide projects through permitting and regulatory processes, including California Building Code and DSA approvals.
• Support project delivery by aligning technical solutions with budgets and schedules.
• Oversee construction administration activities, including RFIs, submittals, site visits, and field coordination.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Design Leaders to maintain alignment between design vision and technical execution.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings, supporting programming and coordination with campus leadership and facilities teams.
• Incorporate sustainable design strategies and performance-driven solutions.
