Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Engineer III (NS) to lead multidisciplinary teams in the development, implementation, and delivery of Alternative Delivery transportation projects across various modes.

You will oversee procurement, review plans for contract compliance, and provide technical leadership on complex design-build and CM/GC initiatives, ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget. Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in engineering and four years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams on transportation projects and coordinating with diverse stakeholders.
• Knowledge of delivery methods such as Design-Build, CM/GC, Progressive Design-Build, Sponsorship, and PPPs.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and deliver Alternative Delivery projects.
• Make decisions balancing public interest (cost/time) with engineering judgment on procedures, materials, and construction methods.
• Oversee procurement and delivery of Alternative Delivery contracts (Design-Build, Express Design-Build Bridges, Progressive Design-Build, Sponsorship, CM/GC, PPPs) during pre-construction.
• Provide technical expertise to coordinate with multidisciplinary personnel in procurement and delivery.
• Ensure investigations and recommendations meet contractual requirements before procurement.
• Assist in developing contractual documents and scopes of work, and review design plans for conformity with contracts.
• Assist with contract administration and respond to questions from contractors and designers.
