Job summary

Consulting Solutions is seeking a Project Manager II to support utility distribution maintenance programs and capital project development. This desk-based role focuses on scoping, planning, initiation, and oversight, with limited travel and hybrid work (3 days in office).

The position involves managing budgets, schedules, and resources, coordinating with vendors and internal teams, and supporting capital projects from $1M to $20M. Excellent communication and stakeholder management are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a four-year college or university.
• 5–9 years of project management or closely related project experience.
• Strong understanding of project management principles and processes.
• Experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, and stakeholders.
• Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, or external service providers.
• Experience monitoring project or program costs and budgets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships and effectively engage stakeholders across different functional groups.
• Experience within the utility, power, energy, or construction industry.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage utility maintenance programs involving distribution assets, poles, line relocation/removal, and related infrastructure.
• Provide project management oversight across multiple operating areas and work closely with engineering and technical subject matter experts.
• Develop and maintain annual work plans, project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors performing field activities, including pole removal and other maintenance-related work.
• Monitor project and program spending, forecasts, budgets, schedules, and overall progress.
• Review vendor invoices and help ensure accurate and timely payment.
• Track year-over-year program performance and provide regular status and progress reporting.
• Support wildfire mitigation initiatives involving utility assets located in higher-risk areas.
• Coordinate development of alternative plans for higher-risk poles, lines, and other infrastructure.
• Provide work plans to operational teams responsible for completing mitigation activities and monitor work through completion.
• Build productive relationships with engineering, construction, operations, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Facilitate communication between technical subject matter experts and project stakeholders to keep work on scope, schedule, and budget.
• Manage resources across multiple programs and competing priorities.
• Support development of capital projects, including substation and distribution-related initiatives.
• Develop project scopes and determine work requirements based on available capital budgets.
• Prepare project charters, schedules, estimates, funding documentation, and other project governance materials required to move projects through initiation gates.
• Transition fully developed projects to execution teams.
• Potentially manage development activities for up to approximately 10 projects simultaneously.
• Package work effectively, maintain schedules, follow established processes, and proactively engage stakeholders to keep projects moving forward.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Project Manager II to support utility distribution maintenance programs and capital project development. This role will focus primarily on the scoping, planning, initiation, and oversight of projects and programs rather than field execution.

The Project Manager will oversee maintenance programs involving utility assets, coordinate work plans with internal stakeholders and external vendors, monitor budgets and schedules, and ensure work progresses according to established plans. The position may also support the early development of capital projects ranging from approximately $1M to $20M.

This is primarily a desk-based project management position involving frequent coordination through meetings, phone calls, and email. Extensive travel is not expected.

Key Responsibilities
