Job summary

University of California, Irvine seeks a team lead with deep expertise in design and construction to guide policy, procedures, and contract documents that support its capital program, in line with state and federal codes. You will counsel senior leaders and apply advanced judgment to select methods and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Required are in-depth knowledge of planning and construction, policy development, contract documents, and a relevant license.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of planning, design and construction procedures.
  • Advanced experience developing policies related to design and construction.
  • In-depth understanding of contract documents related to the design and construction industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of University organization, rules, regulations, policies and long-range building plans.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational and problem recognition skills.
  • Highly effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication, including negotiation.
  • Advanced team building and facilitation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience / training.
  • License to practice in architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning or landscape architecture.

Job description

Responsibilities

Functioning as a team lead, with a high degree of knowledge in Design and Construction. Ensures that University design and construction policy effectively supports and advances the goals of its capital program, in conformance with all applicable state and federal codes and regulations. Develops policies, procedures, (contract) documents and code implementation related to design and construction (including building code and safety regulations) and the related accountability framework to evaluate effectiveness. Counsels senior leaders, providing highly technical advice related to design and construction. Exercises experienced judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results, and may provide guidance to other functional managers, project leaders, and / or analysts.


Qualifications

Required:



  • In-depth knowledge of planning, design and construction procedures, industry practices, and / or deep expertise in a highly specialized and critical discipline.

  • Advanced experience developing policies related to design and construction.

  • In-depth understanding of contract documents related to the design and construction industry.

  • Advanced knowledge of University organization, including its infrastructure, rules, regulations, policies and short and long range strategic building plans.

  • Advanced analytical, organizational and problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills.

  • Highly effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective negotiation skills and well developed political acumen.

  • Advanced team building and facilitation skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

  • License to practice in at least one of the following professions: architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning or landscape architecture.
