Design & Construction Services (DCS) is a group of dedicated architects, engineers, project managers, inspectors, contract administrators, and support staff responsible for the implementation and management of the campus capital program. The department is comprised of five units: Budget & Finance Administration, Contract Administration, Construction & Inspection, Project Management, and Quality Assurance.

The Design & Construction Services department supports the university's dynamic growth and shares its ambitious strategic vision to strengthen contributions in research, education, and service; accelerate ascendency among globally preeminent research universities; and marshal passions, skills, and ingenuity to further improve people's lives.

Your Role on the Team

Assists unit efforts to ensure University design and construction policy effectively supports and advances the goals of its capital program, in conformance with all applicable state and federal codes and regulations. With regular guidance, assists in developing policies, procedures, (contract) documents and code implementation related to design and construction (including building code and safety regulations) and the related accountability framework to evaluate effectiveness. Supports unit to provide technical advice related to design and construction. Exercises judgment on issues of moderate scope and complexity, selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria within established standards and guidelines.

What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
  • Working knowledge of planning, design and construction procedures, and industry practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contract documents related to the design and construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of University organization, including its infrastructure, rules, regulations, policies and short and long range strategic building plans.
  • Proficient analytical, organizational and problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills.
  • Proven written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective negotiation skills and well developed political acumen.
  • Demonstrated team building and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in organizing and running large group events.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of 3 years of experiencein a related field
