Job summary

Gilder Search Group is seeking a Project Engineer to bridge design intent and field execution by maintaining clear, current technical documentation and coordinating information flow across project stakeholders.

You will support submittals, RFIs, drawings, and technical correspondence while tracking actions and turnkeys to keep procurement, installation, testing, and turnover on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of project engineering or technical coordination experience.
  • Experience with submittals, RFIs, plan reviews, field coordination, turnover, or QA/QC.
  • Ability to read contract documents and construction drawings.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving across field and office teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support submittal, RFI, drawing review, and issue-resolution processes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with field supervision, subcontractors, designers, consultants, owners, vendors, and quality stakeholders to support timely technical communication and resolution of project issues.
  • Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and other contract documents to identify conflicts, omissions, discrepancies, or constructability concerns.
  • Maintain logs and tracking tools for RFIs, submittals, action items, design clarifications, and pending technical decisions.
  • Assist with preparation, routing, follow-up, and closeout of technical documentation to support procurement, installation, testing, and turnover activities.
  • Support field teams by clarifying design intent, distributing current documents, and helping ensure the most current approved information is being used for construction.
  • Assist with document control, version tracking, record maintenance, and organization of technical correspondence and approvals.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, drawing reviews, and planning discussions to help resolve technical issues before they impact field productivity.
  • Support inspections, punch tracking, field verification, turnover records, and closeout deliverables as assigned.
  • Assist with review of material requests, procurement submittals, long-lead tracking, and vendor documentation to support schedule and installation readiness.
  • Work with project controls, quality, and field teams to support schedule-driven information needs and readiness for upcoming work.

Position Summary


Supports project execution through technical coordination, document control, field support, submittal management, RFI administration, constructability review, and problem-solving tied to active construction operations. This role helps maintain alignment between design intent, project requirements, and field execution by ensuring technical information is complete, current, organized, and actionable for the project team.

Primary Purpose

This role helps bridge the gap between design intent and field execution by maintaining technical clarity, tracking responses, coordinating information flow, and ensuring engineering and construction documentation is ready to support safe, efficient, and compliant work in the field. The Project Engineer contributes to project performance by helping reduce ambiguity, improve responsiveness, and support timely decision-making across project stakeholders.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to Project Manager, Construction Manager, or Engineering leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong document review, technical coordination, and follow-up skills in active project environments.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in fast-paced construction, engineering, or industrial settings.
  • Familiarity with drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and general construction workflow.
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents, shop drawings, technical manuals, and project correspondence.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving capability with the ability to work across field and office teams.
  • Organized approach to tracking technical issues, maintaining records, and following items through resolution.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision.
  • Basic understanding of construction sequencing, field coordination, and installation readiness.
Education

Bachelor’s degree required: in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.

Equivalent combinations of technical education, internship experience, and directly relevant project support experience may be considered where appropriate.

Experience

3+ years of project engineering or technical coordination experience.

Experience supporting commercial, industrial, infrastructure, energy, mission-critical, manufacturing, modular, or EPC project environments is preferred.

Prior exposure to submittals, RFIs, plan review, field coordination, turnover, or QA/QC support is strongly desirable.

Internship, co-op, or rotational experience in engineering or construction may be considered toward early-career qualification requirements.

Experience working with field teams, subcontractors, consultants, and design professionals is preferred.

Preferred Credentials

OSHA 30, FE/EIT, PMP, or relevant training preferred.
