Job summary

Fabr Global in Chesapeake, VA seeks a Senior Project Manager for asphalt paving & transportation projects. You will own the financials of high-volume contracts, coordinate with plant operations, and drive profitability while meeting strict VDOT standards in the Hampton Roads area.

You will lead multi-crew operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage complex MOT, night shifts, and urban execution windows, all within a safety-first culture and with relocation support to coastal Virginia.

Qualifications

• Proven track record managing large asphalt paving and highway rehab projects.
• Familiarity with VDOT specs and local municipal requirements.
• Experience with unit-cost tracking and daily production metrics.
• Skilled in project scheduling tools such as HCSS HeavyJob and Primavera P6.
• Leadership ability to coordinate field crews and plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with HMA plant managers and trucking to hit tonnage targets.

The Role

Chesapeake and the broader Hampton Roads market present a dynamic challenge for heavy asphalt paving, driven by vital interstate corridors, military installation logistics, and heavy municipal expansion. Based out of Chesapeake, VA, you will take commercial and operational ownership of high-volume commercial paving contracts, municipal arterial projects, and VDOT transportation authority work across the area.

Because your company owns the asphalt plants and aggregate supply feeding your jobs, you will operate without the friction of external supplier delays. Your focus is pure execution: maximizing plant-to-paver output, maintaining strict compliance with state transportation specs, and driving profitability across multiple simultaneous paving spreads.

Core Responsibilities

• Take absolute financial ownership of your project portfolio, overseeing monthly WIP reports, cost-to-complete forecasting, change order management, and margin optimization.
• Partner directly with internal HMA plant managers and trucking dispatch to coordinate seamless mix delivery, eliminate downtime, and hit aggressive daily tonnage targets.
• Lead operations in strict alignment with VDOT Hampton Roads District standards, local municipal requirements, and specialized port/military access protocols.
• Direct multiple simultaneous paving, milling, and grading crews, ensuring optimal allocation of heavy equipment, labor, and trucking resources.
• Oversee intricate maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, high-stakes night shifts, and tight urban execution windows to prevent liquidated damages.
• Enforce rigorous mix specifications, nuclear density targets, and ride-smoothness metrics while maintaining an uncompromised zero-incident safety culture.

What You Bring

• A proven career history managing large-scale asphalt paving, milling, and highway rehabilitation projects from the project management chair.
• Deep, practical familiarity with VDOT specifications, local municipal agency requirements, and state quality control/assurance protocols.
• Strong command of unit-cost tracking, daily production metrics, and project scheduling tools (such as HCSS HeavyJob and Primavera P6).
• The capability to command respect from field superintendents, coordinate effectively with plant operations, and drive commercial accountability.
• B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent hands-on experience in heavy highway and asphalt paving operations. Not essential though.
