MAU Workforce Solutions is hiring a Senior Project Engineer/Manager for our client in Blacksburg, SC. The role leads capital and improvement projects to support safety, quality, and environmental objectives in a chemical manufacturing facility.

This is a direct-hire opportunity. Responsibilities include managing scopes, budgets, schedules, and cross-functional teams; ensuring compliance with codes and safety standards; and delivering projects from design through startup.

MAU is hiring a Senior Project Engineer/Manager for our client in Blacksburg, SC. As a Senior Project Engineer/Manager, you will lead, manage, and execute capital and improvement projects that support the operational, safety, quality, environmental, and business objectives of a chemical manufacturing facility. This is a direct-hire opportunity.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8–10 years of engineering experience in chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, specialty chemicals, polymers, industrial manufacturing, or a related process industry.
  • Proven experience managing capital projects from design through startup.
  • Demonstrated experience with process equipment, manufacturing systems, and industrial utilities.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working in a Process Safety Management (PSM) environment.

General Requirements

  • Strong understanding of chemical manufacturing processes and industrial operations.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with:
  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Process Hazard Analysis methodologies
  • Management of Change (MOC)
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Capital project budgeting and financial analysis
  • Equipment specification and procurement
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.

Essential Functions

  • Lead capital, infrastructure, process improvement, and reliability projects from conception through completion.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and project execution strategies.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring alignment with site priorities and business objectives.
  • Monitor project progress, identify project risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate engineering design, procurement activities, contractor management, construction oversight, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Prepare and present project status reports to site leadership and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise in chemical manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend process improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Lead process design reviews, hazard analyses, and technical risk assessments.
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company engineering practices.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts related to production processes, utilities, and equipment performance.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Develop capital expenditure requests and business case justifications.
  • Prepare project cost estimates, financial analyses, and return-on-investment evaluations.
  • Manage project budgets and maintain financial accountability throughout project execution.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all projects comply with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, Management of Change (MOC) processes, Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, environmental permits, and other applicable regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process efficiency, asset reliability, energy reduction, waste minimization, and sustainability.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, and Reliability Excellence methodologies where applicable.
  • Identify emerging technologies and best practices that improve manufacturing performance.
  • Serve as a mentor and technical resource for engineers, technicians, and operations personnel.
  • Foster strong working relationships across departments to achieve project and operational goals.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams and facilitate effective communication among stakeholders.
  • Manage relationships with engineering firms, equipment suppliers, contractors, and consultants.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Quality, Procurement, and external contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
