Job description

MAU is hiring a Production Manager for our client in Blacksburg, SC. As a Production Manager, you will lead the daily operations and performance of the production department while ensuring objectives related to safety, environmental compliance, quality, delivery, cost, morale, and continuous improvement are achieved. This is a direct-hire opportunity.

Shift Information

  • Monday – Friday
  • May be required to work additional hours as needed
  • Participation in an on-call rotation is required

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Background in chemical manufacturing
  • Prior or current leadership experience demonstrating the ability to lead a large group of individuals

General Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to wear a full-face respirator in accordance with safety requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and ownership with little supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead team members
  • Knowledge of plant systems to ensure compliance with standard practices throughout the production department

Essential Functions

  • Improve the performance and quality of production teams.
  • Ensure batch sheets are followed and accurately documented.
  • Perform informal audits of batch sheets and reactions in process.
  • Ensure production training systems are adequate.
  • Assist with investigations involving off-quality product and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop Production Associates through coaching and training.
  • Foster a work environment that promotes open communication, teamwork, and individual engagement.
  • Track associate hours, absences, and vacation schedules.
  • Review weekly timesheets to ensure correct pay rates and proper implementation of vacation and holiday pay.
  • Ensure Production Associates are paid accurately and distribute paychecks.
  • Track, evaluate, and review associate performance.
  • Conduct biannual performance reviews for Production Associates, including operator-level and warehouse associates.
  • Ensure Production Associates receive adequate training to perform their job responsibilities.
  • Review and evaluate associate training progression and regularly discuss progress with associates.
  • Collaborate with the plant supply chain department to develop department production schedules.
  • Manage department inventory control and cycle counting activities.
  • Adjust production schedules and redirect workforce resources to meet production orders.
  • Attend daily morning meetings to transition shifts, communicate plant status, and address department responsibilities.
  • Perform work area audits to verify completed work and maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Partner with Human Resources and other Production Managers to recruit, interview, and hire Production Associates.
  • Collaborate with other departments to track, report, and follow up on daily production efficiency.
  • Assist with enforcing plant-wide safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with enforcing plant-wide environmental rules and regulations.
  • Participate actively in the plant safety process, including serving on a safety team.
  • Participate in plant labor stabilization meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Physical Demands

  • Move throughout the plant at least 25% of the workday.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance up to 10% of the workday.
  • Walk stairs or use ladders up to 10% of the workday.
  • Bend or stoop up to 10% of the workday.
  • Maintain visual acuity sufficient to read printed materials and computer screens as required.
  • Demonstrate the cognitive ability to make decisions, reason, and understand information as required.
