Charter Steel is hiring a Senior Project Engineer – Capital Projects to oversee the full lifecycle of capital initiatives across multiple facilities. The role requires collaboration with Plant Managers, Operations, and engineering teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

This hybrid position involves ~40% travel annually and prioritizes leadership, strategic analysis, and strong communication to drive growth and safety standards across Charter Steel’s operations in Ohio and Wisconsin.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 7+ years in operational management with direct project management responsibility.
• Proven ability to coach and influence others to achieve results.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading multiple capital projects through full lifecycle (definition to closeout).
• Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams with minimal supervision.
• Travel willingness: about 40% annually.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, justification, design, and execution of capital projects aligned with operations, safety, and financial targets.
• Act as engineering lead and role model within operations and engineering teams.
• Develop and validate financial business cases (ROI, NPV, capacity, operating costs).
• Serve as liaison between Plant Project Managers and external contractors.
• Identify engineering needs for key stakeholders across the business.
• Mentor and coach team members on tackling engineering projects.
• Lead cross-functional teams and influence decisions to achieve objectives.
• Guide teams through project phases using internal and external resources.
• Lead Greenfield, Brownfield, modernization, acquisition, and relocation projects from concept to startup.
• Follow Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures.
• Meet essential job requirements with or without accommodations.
