Job summary

Charter Manufacturing is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Capital Projects for Charter Steel. You will lead the full lifecycle of capital projects from definition through closeout, partnering with Plant Managers, operations, and vendors to deliver safe, on-time, and within budget results.

The role requires driving complex capital investments, influencing without direct authority, and balancing multiple facilities’ needs. Travel ~40% and a hybrid onsite schedule are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related engineering field.
• 7+ years’ experience in operational management with direct project management responsibility.
• Proven ability to coach and influence others to achieve results.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience leading multiple capital projects through full lifecycle (definition to closeout).
• Excellent analytical skills for engineering solutions.
• Leadership experience with cross-functional teams.
• Advanced experience with capital equipment procurement including RFQ generation.
• Strategic thinking to align projects with business direction.
• Self-starter with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, justification, design, and execution of capital projects across Charter Steel facilities.
• Act as engineering lead within operations and broader engineering organization.
• Develop financial business cases: ROI, NPV, capacity and cost impacts, risk assessments.
• Coordinate with Plant Project Managers and contractors to deliver optimal solutions.
• Identify engineering needs for key stakeholders across the business.
• Mentor and coach employees on tackling engineering projects.
• Lead cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives and business results.
• Utilize internal and external resources through project phases.
• Lead Greenfield, Brownfield, expansions, modernization, acquisitions, and relocations from concept to startup.
• Adhere to Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures.
