Job summary

Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Assistant Project Manager / Senior Project Engineer to be based in southern California. This role supports field engineering, project execution, and coordination with the project team on a major public works project.

Responsibilities include overseeing field engineering, scheduling, cost control, subcontractor management, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with 10 years of heavy civil construction experience or equivalent.
• Experience on heavy civil construction projects, preferably >$50M, water/wastewater preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to field crews, ensuring accurate interpretation of drawings, specs, and contract requirements.
• Oversee layout, surveying, and grade control to maintain project accuracy.
• Help manage and implement construction methodologies and best practices with the superintendent and project team.
• Report to and support the superintendent in day-to-day tasks.
• Manage subcontractor scopes to ensure compliance with project specs.
• Coordinate with inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Manage assigned Force Account work.
