Job summary

Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer in Phoenix. The role focuses on RFI generation, shop drawing coordination, and cross‑functional project support from procurement through close‑out.

The successful candidate will assist in scheduling, budgeting, and field verification of dimensions, while learning Ryan Safety Policies and site logistics. This full‑time position requires construction experience and willingness to travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • 4‑year college degree, preferably in a construction-related field.
  • 2–4 years of commercial construction experience in a design-build environment.
  • Minimum six month jobsite experience before moving on to Project Management or Field Career Path.
  • Knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost‑coding systems.
  • Willingness to travel, and/or relocate, as needed to execute projects.
  • Familiar and comfortable with current technology.

Responsibilities

  • Generate RFIs and track approvals.
  • Maintain shop drawing log and coordination.
  • Verify dimensions against shop drawings during field checks.
  • Coordinate vendor and subcontractor deliveries.
  • Learn Ryan Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Understand site logistics and permit inspections.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly construction meetings.
  • Assist in procurement and bid preparation, including subcontractor bids.
  • Support project budgeting, invoicing, and cost control.
  • Take-offs and unit-cost analysis to support estimates.
  • Monitor subcontracts and material delivery schedules.

Job description

Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an immediate career opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer in Phoenix.

Responsibilities
  • Help generate Requests For Information (RFIs) and track approvals.
  • Monitor and maintain shop drawing log and shop drawing coordination.
  • Learn project dimensional control requirements while field verifying dimensions to back check the shop drawing approval process.
  • Assist in the coordination and tracking of Vendor and Subcontractor deliveries.
  • Learn Ryan Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Gain an understanding for overall site logistics.
  • Participate in and gain an understanding of the city and jurisdictional permit inspection process.
  • Keep office and jobsite plans updated with RFIs and ASIs.
  • Accompany Ryan personnel (and Owner) on Punchlist inspections, record Punchlist items and monitor completion of Punchlist work.
  • Perform additional assignments per Superintendent’s/Project Manager’s direction.
  • Participate in preparing and updating the project schedule.
  • Prepare agendas and minutes for the weekly construction meetings and take an active role in these meetings.
  • Assist Project Manager with project procurement through development of subcontractor RFP bid forms and bid form evaluation spreadsheets. Gain an understanding of unit costs, bid form evaluations and award procedures during the bid phase of a construction project.
  • Assist in Owner change pricing; prepare billings and review invoices.
  • Under supervision on selected small projects, prepare and control budget and schedule, award and negotiate subcontracts, participate in jobsite coordination meetings, review job status with Project Manager, prepare profit projections and complete Punchlist and project close‑out items.
  • Support the estimating process and learn take‑off software and unit cost analysis through preparing quantity take-offs.
  • Monitor assigned subcontracts, subcontractor schedules relative to material deliveries and subcontractor manpower.
Qualifications
  • 4‑year college degree, preferably in a construction‑related field.
  • At least 2–4 years of successful commercial construction experience in a design‑build environment.
  • Minimum six month jobsite experience before moving on to Project Management or Field Career Path.
  • General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
  • Ability to calculate mathematical calculations, understand architectural and engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost‑coding systems.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively.
  • Willingness to travel, and/or relocate, as needed to execute projects.
  • 1–2 years of commercial construction experience.
  • Knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing is required.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost‑coding systems.
  • Familiar and comfortable with current technology.
