Job summary

Ryan Companies US, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join the team in Atlanta. The role focuses on estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing with collaboration across project teams.

You will assist PMs and Superintendents with scheduling, procurement, and site logistics while learning and applying Ryan safety policies. Travel for projects is possible as needed.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field.
  • Must be able to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Able to perform mathematical calculations, manage POs, contracts and cost-coding systems.
  • Strong communication and interface skills with project team and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in generating RFIs and tracking approvals.
  • Maintain shop drawing log and coordinate drawings.
  • Support dimensional control and verify drawings in the field.
  • Review drawings using Ryan checklists.
  • Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with PSQP.
  • Coordinate vendor and subcontractor deliveries.
  • Learn Ryan Safety Policies and site logistics.
  • Participate in permit inspection processes.
  • Update office and jobsite plans with RFIs and ASIs.
  • Support bidding activities and bid form evaluations.

To be successful in this role, you must have knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing. A bachelor's degree in a construction-related field is required. You must be able to perform mathematical calculations, understand architectural and engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost-coding systems. You also must be able to assume responsibility, interface & communicate effectively.

Somethings you can expect to do:

  • Help generate Requests For Information (RFIs) and track approvals.

  • Monitor and maintain shop drawing log and shop drawing coordination.

  • Learn project dimensional control requirements while field verifying dimensions to back check the shop drawing approval process.

  • Complete thorough drawing review while utilizing the Ryan checklists.

  • Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with creating and executing Project Specific Quality Plan (PSQP).

  • Assist in the coordination and tracking of Vendor and Subcontractor deliveries.

  • Learn Ryan Safety Policies and Procedures.

  • Gain an understanding for overall site logistics.

  • Participate in and gain an understanding of the city and jurisdictional permit inspection process.

  • Keep office and jobsite plans updated with RFIs and ASIs.

  • Accompany Ryan personnel (and Owner) on Punchlist inspections, record Punchlist items and monitor completion of Punchlist work.

  • Perform additional assignments per Superintendent's/Project Manager's direction.

  • Participate in preparing and updating the project schedule.

  • Begin to participate in most tasks listed under Sr. Project Engineer.

  • Prepare agendas and minutes for the weekly construction meetings and begin to take an active role in these meetings.

  • Lead selective bid solicitation phone calls and overall bidlist management.

  • Assist Project Manager with project procurement through development of subcontractor RFP bid forms and bid form evaluation spreadsheets. Begin to understand unit costs, bid form evaluations and award procedures during the bid phase of a construction project.

  • Assist in Owner change pricing; prepare billings and review invoices.

  • Support the estimating process and learn take-off software and unit cost analysis through preparing quantity take-offs.

  • Assist Project Manager with scheduling, creating agenda, and running key project milestone meetings (Release, Kickoff, Control, and Closeout)

You will really stand out if you:

  • Open to travel for projects.

  • Four-year college degree in construction management or related field or two-year construction certificate with a minimum of 2 years industry experience

  • Entry level position, but previous intern experience preferred

  • General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.

  • Ability to calculate mathematical calculations, understand architectural and engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost-coding systems.

  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively.

  • Willingness to travel, and/or relocate, as needed to execute projects.
