Job summary

Ryan Companies US, Inc. in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Project Engineer to support estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing while applying knowledge of drawings, POs, and cost-coding systems to keep projects on track.

In this role you will assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with RFI tracking, shop drawing coordination, scheduling, procurement, and site logistics. A four-year degree in construction management or a related field is preferred, and willingness to travel

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction-related field is required.
• Knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing.
• Ability to calculate mathematical calculations, understand architectural and engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost-coding systems.
• Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively.
• Open to travel for projects.
• Four-year degree or two-year certificate with industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Help generate RFIs and track approvals.
• Monitor and maintain shop drawing log and shop drawing coordination.
• Learn project dimensional control requirements while field verifying dimensions to back check the shop drawing approval process.
• Complete thorough drawing review while utilizing the Ryan checklists.
• Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with PSQP.
• Assist in coordination and tracking of Vendor and Subcontractor deliveries.
• Learn Ryan Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Understand overall site logistics.
• Participate in city and jurisdictional permit inspection process.
• Keep office and jobsite plans updated with RFIs and ASIs.
• Accompany Ryan personnel and Owner on Punchlist inspections and monitor completion.
• Perform additional assignments per Superintendent's/PM's direction.
• Participate in preparing and updating the project schedule.
• Begin to participate in tasks listed under Sr. Project Engineer.
• Prepare agendas and minutes for weekly construction meetings.
• Lead select bid solicitation calls and bidlist management.
• Assist PM with procurement and bid form evaluation.
• Assist with Owner change pricing; prepare billings and review invoices.
• Support estimating with take-offs and unit costs.
• Assist PM with scheduling and milestone meetings.

Somethings you can expect to do:

• Assist in the coordination and tracking of Vendor and Subcontractor deliveries.

• Gain an understanding for overall site logistics.

• Participate in and gain an understanding of the city and jurisdictional permit inspection process.

• Keep office and jobsite plans updated with RFIs and ASIs.

• Accompany Ryan personnel (and Owner) on Punchlist inspections, record Punchlist items and monitor completion of Punchlist work.

• Perform additional assignments per Superintendent's/Project Manager's direction.

• Lead selective bid solicitation phone calls and overall bidlist management.

• Assist Project Manager with project procurement through development of subcontractor RFP bid forms and bid form evaluation spreadsheets. Begin to understand unit costs, bid form evaluations and award procedures during the bid phase of a construction project.

• Assist in Owner change pricing; prepare billings and review invoices.

• Support the estimating process and learn take-off software and unit cost analysis through preparing quantity take-offs.

• Assist Project Manager with scheduling, creating agenda, and running key project milestone meetings (Release, Kickoff, Control, and Closeout)

• Four-year college degree in construction management or related field or two-year construction certificate with a minimum of 2 years industry experience

• Entry level position, but previous intern experience preferred

• General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.

• Ability to calculate mathematical calculations, understand architectural and engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost-coding systems.

• Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively.

• Willingness to travel, and/or relocate, as needed to execute projects.
