This position will lead coordination and support project management and field operations across mechanical, piping, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities. The ideal candidate has strong data center or complex construction experience, works independently, anticipates risk, mentors project engineers, and drives multi-trade issues through timely resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned project scopes from preconstruction and procurement through installation, testing, commissioning, closeout, and client turnover.

  • Lead technical and field coordination of mechanical, piping, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, and equipment systems, identifying risks and driving issues to resolution.

  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, coordination models, and installation details for constructability, scope alignment, sequencing, and field execution.

  • Lead BIM/VDC and multi-trade coordination for data halls, central utility areas, equipment rooms, overhead and underground distribution, and prefabricated assemblies.

  • Manage project documentation and controls, including RFIs, submittals, change documentation, procurement logs, drawing logs, field changes, and turnover documentation.

  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, fabrication, material deliveries, and long-lead equipment to maintain field readiness, quality, and schedule performance.

  • Support project financial management, including estimates, budgets, purchase orders, subcontracts, quantity validation, cost tracking, and change proposals.

  • Monitor project schedules, short-interval plans, constraints, craft productivity, and installation progress; identify impacts and support recovery and mitigation planning.

  • Coordinate quality, inspection, pressure testing, flushing, startup, energization readiness, commissioning, punch-list completion, and system turnover activities.

  • Serve as a primary technical liaison between project management, field supervision, engineering, quality, safety, the client, design team, commissioning authority, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Provide clear project reporting on engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, schedule, constraints, and project risk.

  • Mentor Project Engineers, Field Engineers, and project support personnel by reviewing work products, establishing priorities, and promoting consistent project controls, documentation, and accountability.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant construction experience will be considered.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar construction professional, including responsibility for complex mechanical, piping, electrical, industrial, or mission critical scopes. Candidates without a related degree should have at least 8 years of directly comparable construction experience.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical piping, HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, controls, or related building systems; data center experience is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, schedules, and technical documents.

  • Experience with RFIs, submittals, procurement tracking, change management, field coordination, quality documentation, and project closeout.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word; experience with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, or similar construction platforms is preferred.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work professionally with clients, designers, subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, and internal teams.

  • Strong organization, time management, follow-through, and ability to reprioritize in a schedule-sensitive environment.

  • Ability to work independently onsite, identify issues early, and drive actions through resolution.

  • Willingness to work the project schedule required for onsite construction support in the New Carlisle / South Bend area.

  • Demonstrated experience independently managing major scopes, multiple building systems, or defined project areas on complex construction projects.

  • Ability to lead coordination meetings, present technical and schedule information to project stakeholders, and document clear decisions and action items.

  • Advanced understanding of constructability, procurement, field sequencing, quality control, testing, commissioning, turnover, change management, and project controls.

  • Proven ability to mentor developing engineers and coordinate effectively with field supervision and craft leadership.

Preferred Mission Critical Experience
  • Hyperscale or mission critical data center construction, including phased data halls or campus-scale development.

  • Chilled-water, hydronic, process piping, HVAC, plumbing, fuel, equipment connection, generator support, electrical, controls, testing, commissioning, or integrated systems turnover.

  • Multi-trade coordination, system completion tracking, startup planning, commissioning readiness, and client turnover in an operating or high-reliability environment.

  • Prefabrication, modular construction, fabrication tracking, and installation planning for high-density mechanical and electrical systems.
