Job summary

Beyer Blinder Belle is seeking an experienced Project Architect to lead and coordinate architectural and engineering teams in Washington, DC, focusing on a complex existing-building residential project. The role involves guiding documentation, addressing regulatory and constructability challenges, and collaborating with BBB offices across Boston, New York, and Miami.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional architectural experience, including leadership roles as Project Architect or similar.
• At least five years on multifamily residential projects.
• Experience renovating or adapting existing residential buildings.
• Experience across multiple project phases: CD and CA.
• Registered Architect; sustainability accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural document production and coordination across all project phases.
• Develop comprehensive contract documents, drawings, specs, and technical details.
• Evaluate existing conditions using field observations and available documentation.
• Resolve technical challenges in renovation and rehab of existing residential buildings.
• Coordinate internal project team and external consultants (structural, MEP/FP, civil, landscape, code, envelope, etc.).
• Lead coordination meetings, set priorities, delegate tasks, track progress against schedules.
• Collaborate with Project Manager on staffing, production planning, and workflows.
• Communicate design concepts clearly to clients and project team through drawings and presentations.
• Maintain design intent and quality per client and BBB direction.
• Direct development of zoning, permit, and regulatory review packages.
• Conduct QA/QC to meet BBB standards and codes.
• Guide BIM development and coordination per BBB BIM standards.
• Support Construction Administration (RFI responses, submittals, site visits).
• Provide mentorship to junior/intermediate team members.
