Comfort Systems USA, Inc. in Fort Worth is seeking a Project Accounting Manager to lead the project accounting function, oversee setup, costs, billing, and forecasting, and partner with project managers to improve accuracy and accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 5 years in construction or project accounting.
• 2+ years of supervisory or team-lead experience.
• Strong knowledge of construction job costing, forecasting, WIP, revenue recognition, retainage, and billing.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP, reporting, and document-management systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Project Accountants; establish priorities and performance expectations; support hiring, onboarding, training, evaluations, succession, and cross-training.
• Oversee project setup, contract entry, budgets, cost codes, billing requirements, and financial structures in company systems.
• Ensure labor, equipment, material, subcontract costs and commitments are recorded accurately and investigate variances.
• Lead monthly project forecasting and WIP processes; review forecasts for completeness and reasonableness; identify profitability trends and corrective actions.
• Support revenue recognition calculations and ensure project accounting practices follow policy, contractual requirements, and controls.
• Oversee AIA, progress, unit-price, time-and-material billing; monitor retainage, unbilled revenue, and billing backlog; help resolve billing questions or disputes.
• Support monthly and year-end close; review project financials and profitability reports, and prepare management analyses.
• Partner with project and operations leaders on job-cost accuracy, forecast quality, cash flow, closeout, and financial risk.
• Maintain internal controls and lead improvements to ERP, reporting, and project accounting processes.
