Job summary

Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Accountant II to oversee the financial lifecycle of complex projects and partner with project managers and leadership to ensure profitability and compliance.

You will mentor junior staff, drive project governance, and lead financial analyses, including earned value and cost monitoring, while optimizing ERP workflows and internal controls within a Chicago-based firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or higher in a business-related field.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in project accounting, preferably in engineering or consulting.
• Experience leading financial planning for large-scale projects.
• Public agency invoicing experience in Chicago area preferred (CDOT, CCDOTH, IDOT, ISTHA).

Responsibilities

• Lead project setup and financial structuring per SOPs and contract terms.
• Prepare monthly, interim, and milestone invoices and review junior accountants' work.
• Act as liaison between finance, project teams, and leadership for financial matters.
• Monitor costs, budgets, forecasts, and earned value metrics.
• Advise project managers on corrective actions to mitigate risks.
• Lead project kick-off and closeout financial reviews and ensure data integrity.
