Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a Senior Project Accountant in Chicago, IL, to own cost accounting for multiple construction projects on-site. You will work closely with project managers and leaders to drive financial performance and improve profitability while maintaining strong internal controls and reporting accuracy.

The role requires hands-on construction project accounting experience and a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of construction project accounting or job cost accounting experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, revenue recognition, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with construction contracts, change orders, and subcontractor billing.
• CPA certification or progress toward certification is a plus.
• Experience with construction accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manage job cost accounting and financial reporting for multiple construction projects.
• Monitor project budgets, forecasts, expenses, and cost variances.
• Review construction contracts, change orders, subcontractor invoices, and supporting documentation.
• Oversee project revenue recognition and maintain accurate accounting records.
• Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations, and closing entries.
• Partner with project managers to identify financial risks and improve profitability.
• Support compliance with applicable government contract requirements.
• Help improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.

Pay: $105,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
