A well-established New York City–based Construction Management and General Contracting firm is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support a growing portfolio of projects. The firm delivers high-end commercial interiors, ground‑up construction, and complex infrastructure upgrades, and is known for disciplined financial controls, hands‑on project execution, and close collaboration with ownership and design teams.
This organization maintains a strong project pipeline and places a high value on accurate financial reporting and operational alignment across all phases of construction.
The Opportunity
This is a key project-facing accounting role responsible for the financial health of active construction projects. The Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Project Executives, and senior leadership, ensuring timely requisitions, accurate reporting, contract compliance, and clear cash flow visibility.
The role requires a strong foundation in construction accounting, requisitions, and project-based financial management, and is well suited for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced GC/CM environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process monthly owner requisitions and progress billings
- Process and review subcontractor requisitions
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with contract requirements, including:
- Required project documentation
- Process and maintain project budget updates
- Select and review invoices for inclusion in the weekly disbursement cycle
- Monitor and track project cash position
- Partner closely with Project Managers and Project Executives on all project accounting and administrative matters
- Coordinate with the Controller and CFO on:
- Monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings
- General conditions studies
- Overall project P&L impact
Qualifications
- Strong construction accounting experience with a solid understanding of project-based financial management
- Prior experience within a General Contractor or Construction Management firm
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to partner across project and finance teams
- Demonstrated ownership mentality and leadership qualities
- Experience with Sage, Procore, Textura
