Job summary

City of Durham Parks and Recreation is hiring for a recreation program assistant to develop and implement indoor and outdoor activities, supervise facilities, and coordinate with partner agencies. The role emphasizes strong customer service, data entry, and reporting to support diverse community programs.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, 2 years in a similar setting, and be available for variation in evenings and weekends. Bilingual skills may be required for Latino Outreach.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience with diverse groups in recreation and customer service.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and have NC Class C license.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and supervise activities across multiple spaces.
  • Develop and implement programs for diverse groups.
  • Open/close facilities and supervise rentals.
  • Maintain records, contracts, time sheets and reports.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assist participants and families.
  • Enter registrations into Active.net and manage budgets.
  • Coordinate with schools, nonprofits, and partners.
  • Translate communications for Latino Outreach as needed.
