Job summary

Whatnot Inc. is seeking a Production Engineer to embed with product, platform, and infra teams to identify and fix issues at scale.

You will own the end-to-end reliability of critical live systems, including payments, live video, search, and bidding paths. As a member of a remote-friendly, fast-moving team, you will work across the stack (Python/Elixir, Go) in cloud-native environments (AWS/GCP, Kubernetes) and help ensure stable, observable, and cost-effective operations for a growing live

Qualifications

• 6+ years building and debugging production services at scale.
• Experience embedding with product, platform, and infra teams.
• Strong systems and distributed systems fundamentals: failure modes and load behavior.
• Fluency across languages and cloud-native environments (AWS or GCP).
• Bonus: real-time, event-driven, or live streaming systems.

Responsibilities

• Go deep with the embedded team to improve reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Hunt anomalies across traffic, latency, error, and cost signals across services.
• Connect operational signals to business impact and identify degradations that matter.
• Prepare for peak events with capacity modeling and load testing.
• Improve observability so the next anomaly is found quickly.
• Lead incident response for complex cross-team failures.
