Whatnot is hiring a Production Engineer to embed with product teams and lift reliability, scalability, and performance of real-time live commerce systems. You will hunt anomalies across traffic, latency, errors, and cost, tracing root causes across services, storage, and clients.

Role emphasizes turning operational signals into business impact, preparing for peak events, and expanding observability. Remote-friendly hybrid model with SF/NYC hubs and a focus on live video and payments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 6+ years building and debugging production services at scale.
• Fluency with cloud-native environments (AWS/GCP) and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Embed with product teams to improve reliability, performance, and scalability of services.
• Hunt anomalies in traffic, latency, errors, and cost; trace to root cause across services.
• Connect operational signals to business impact and prioritize degradation fixes.
• Prepare for peak events with capacity modeling, load testing, and failure drills.
• Improve observability to detect future anomalies quickly.
• Lead incident response for cross-team failures and drive systemic fixes.
