Grey Parrot Systems is hiring an experienced Senior Product & Operational Master Data Analyst to lead foundational master data discipline during a major ERP and business-systems transformation — owning SKU/catalog cleanup, operational data governance, and the establishment of a repeatable MDM operating model for a large field-service and rental operations client.
About Grey Parrot Systems
Grey Parrot Systems is a women-owned, BEP-certified IT services firm headquartered in Naperville, IL. We partner with mid-market enterprises to deliver AI-first, governance-driven digital transformation. Our team of seasoned CIO/CTO practitioners works side-by-side with clients across retail, logistics, manufacturing, and healthcare — and we're growing.
About the Role
This is not a generic data-entry role — and it is not yet a pure MDM architect role. We are looking for a hands‑on, business-facing senior analyst with strong product / SKU, supply‑chain, logistics, and rental operations experience who can personally work the data, facilitate cross-functional workshops, and stand up the first governance process where none currently exists.
You will lead the cleanup, standardization, rationalization, and governance of product / SKU and related operational master data across legacy systems, migration datasets, Salesforce, Snowflake, and future enterprise platforms. You will work directly with Operations, Pricing, Sales, Dispatch, Billing, Finance, Inventory / Yard teams, and Technology to ensure master data supports active business operations — without disrupting open orders, deployed equipment, billing, or customer service.
The right candidate says things like:
- "Before merging those two SKUs, I need to see where each is used in open orders, customer contracts, deployed inventory, price books, invoices, and reporting."
- "We need a future‑state item hierarchy and required attributes before we clean the source records."
- "A SKU may be inactive for new selling but still required for active‑order fulfillment, billing continuity, historical reporting, or asset traceability."
- "Let's establish a crosswalk, an exception process, ownership, and a prevention control — not just correct the spreadsheet."
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end cleanup and rationalization of the product / SKU catalog — duplicate detection, obsolete item identification, naming normalization, attribute completion, unit-of-measure alignment, item hierarchy, and lifecycle / status definitions
- Establish a controlled golden product catalog — defining approved SKU, name, description, product family, line of business, rental / service / sale classification, unit of measure, operational attributes, pricing dependencies, and activation status
- Analyze how existing SKUs are used in active orders, contracts, customer sites, deployed equipment, pending quotes, work orders, dispatch activity, invoices, and historical transactions before recommending consolidation, inactivation, mapping, or migration treatment
- Create old-to-new SKU crosswalks and migration rules that preserve historical reporting and minimize disruption to active customer commitments
- Partner with Operations, Branch / Yard teams, Dispatch, Pricing, Sales, Billing, Finance, and Technology to resolve conflicting product definitions and approve business rules
- Define and document data standards, required attributes, naming conventions, data ownership, approval workflows, validation rules, and exception processes for product and operational master data
- Build data‑quality profiling, reconciliation, and exception reports using Snowflake, SQL, Excel, and BI tools — monitoring duplicates, missing attributes, invalid combinations, inactive items in use, and records requiring business decisions
- Support ERP migration and downstream system integrations — validating source‑to‑target mappings, transformation rules, and data completeness
- Develop a repeatable intake process for new SKU creation, SKU changes, pricing‑related item changes, and product retirement
- Maintain a decision log and data issue backlog — assigning data owners and following issues through resolution
- Define practical governance metrics — SKU duplication rate, completeness rate, data‑quality exception aging, turnaround time for item requests, and percentage of active orders mapped to approved catalog records
- Train data stewards and business users on master data standards and the new governance process
What Success Looks Like — First 90–180 Days
- A complete SKU / catalog inventory with a clear disposition for every active or legacy SKU — retain, merge, replace, retire, archive, or investigate
- A formally approved product hierarchy and attribute model for rental, service, sale, and operational items
- A crosswalk from legacy ERP records to the target‑state product structure
- A risk‑reviewed plan for SKUs connected to active orders, customer contracts, deployed assets, open quotes, and billing
- Data‑quality dashboards and a prioritized issue backlog
- A business‑owned approval process for new SKUs and SKU changes
- Written data standards and clearly named data owners / stewards by domain
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in master data management, product data management, data governance, ERP data conversion, supply‑chain data, or operational data analysis
- Demonstrated experience cleaning, standardizing, and governing product / item / SKU master data in an ERP, CRM, rental, distribution, manufacturing, logistics, or field‑service environment
- Strong analytical ability — data profiling, duplicate / near‑duplicate analysis, record matching, crosswalk creation, exception management, and reconciliation
- Advanced Excel skills — pivots, lookup logic, Power Query, and data validation
- Working SQL skills — querying, profiling, and analyzing large operational datasets
- Experience with ERP platforms — Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Navision, Business Central, Acumatica, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar
- Ability to interpret operational data in the context of active orders, contracts, inventory, equipment deployment, returns, billing, and pricing
- Strong stakeholder management skills — comfortable working with branch operations, warehouse / yard personnel, dispatch, sales, finance, and technical teams
- Strong written communication — standards documentation, data dictionaries, mapping specifications, issue logs, and executive‑ready status reporting
- Experience developing SOPs and business workflows for data maintenance and data‑quality controls
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in equipment rental, portable sanitation, construction services, fencing, waste, logistics, multi‑branch distribution, or field‑service operations
- Experience with Salesforce, Salesforce CPQ, Field Service, Snowflake, data warehouses, MDM tools, PIM tools, or data‑quality platforms
- Experience with product hierarchies, equipment classes, service codes, location masters, pricing structures, and unit‑of‑measure conversion
- Familiarity with data governance concepts — data owner, data steward, business glossary, data lineage, validation rules, approval workflows, and auditability
- Experience in a multi‑location operating environment where inventory, dispatch, and service delivery depend on accurate item and location data
- Experience supporting ERP / CRM migration or system transformation programs
Details
- Location: [Remote / Hybrid / On‑Site]
- Engagement: Contract-to-Hire — initial 6–12 month transformation focus
- Target Level: Senior Analyst / Lead Analyst
- Experience: 10+ years of MDM / product data / operational data experience
- Long-Term Path: Convert to Product Data Stewardship / Enterprise Data Governance Lead after migration stabilizes
- Start: Immediate
