Job summary

Scale is seeking a product counsel to lead IP strategy across the product lifecycle, partnering with R&D, engineering and business teams to embed IP protection. You will manage patents and trademarks, advise on data licensing, and help shape governance policies for open-source and ML models.

You will also train teams on IP and licensing, and work with senior leadership to align product goals with regulatory requirements in a fast-moving AI environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in intellectual property law at a top-tier firm or in-house.
• Experience advising on product, regulatory, and IP matters in a high-growth tech environment.
• Authorized to practice in the US with active bar membership; California preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead IP strategy for product development and lifecycle from conception to commercialization.
• Collaborate with Research, Product, Engineering, Ops, Communications and Marketing to mitigate IP risks.
• Support patent and trademark portfolio management, prosecution, and enforcement.
• Advise on data licensing, third-party data, and open-source governance policies.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements involving IP.
• Provide training on IP and data licensing to the organization.
