Job summary

AbbVie in North Chicago, IL seeks a Senior Scientist I/II in Process Engineering to lead crystallization-focused scale-up and development for small molecule APIs and related products. Candidate will drive integration of crystallization fundamentals with robust process development, sharing results with cross-functional teams and preparing regulatory documentation as needed.

The role emphasizes hands-on laboratory work, mentoring junior engineers, and advancing scalable manufacturing campaigns

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field with 10+/8+/0+ years industrial experience.
• Strong background in chemical engineering and demonstration of skills in this field.
• Learn, understand, and master new experimental techniques.
• Effective oral and written communication and good team player.

Responsibilities

• Develop robust scale-up and manufacturing processes for small/large molecules through all development stages.
• Perform laboratory experiments and process modeling to understand and optimize processes.
• Address separations and isolations issues using crystallization, thermodynamics and transport phenomena.
• Author and review technical documents summarizing process development work.
• Collaborate across disciplines and communicate findings to chemists, engineers, and program managers.
• Author publications and present at scientific conferences.

Chemical Engineering degree (BS/MS/PhD)
