Job summary

Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials in Boston, MA seeks a Process R&D Manager to lead multi-project R&D efforts across our portfolio. You will own technology development, pilot studies, and technology transfer while guiding cross-functional teams and advising senior management on key technical choices.

This hands-on role requires LiPF6 or fluorochemical process experience, solid-liquid separations expertise, and strong fundamentals in reactions, fluid flow, and heat transfer.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering plus 10+ years of post graduate industry experience.
• Ownership and execution of R&D programs, especially early stage and less defined projects.
• Hands-on technology transfer, pilot/full-scale plant build and operations experience.
• Operational understanding of a range of chemical unit operations and equipment.
• Experience in process safety design and assessment.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and approaches.
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
• Executive presence and leadership in a matrix organization.
• LiPF6 or fluorochemical production experience.
• Expertise in solid-liquid separations and powder handling.
• Statistics and process modeling/simulation experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and develop cost-effective processes to manufacture new products at scale using agile, fast-to-fail approaches.
• Develop deep understanding of process technology, options, trade-offs and economics.
• Drive technology licensing and transfer; support engineering through EPC and commissioning.
• Set objectives and work plans across technology centers.
• Define and improve global R&D methodologies and standards.
• Mentor lab staff; lead piloting studies as needed.
• Identify external R&D resources and partners to complement internal capabilities.
• Lead and support plant troubleshooting efforts.
• Lead design and development of pilot plants.
• Mentor and develop junior staff.
• Foster a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with regulations.
