Job summary

AbbVie’s PDS&T group in North Chicago, IL seeks a Principal Engineer I to lead late-stage small molecule solid dosage development and deliver robust processes for commercial products. This role requires strong engineering leadership, collaboration across functions, and mentoring of colleagues within a GMP environment.

The candidate will design experiments, interpret complex data, and drive innovative approaches from literature and development experience to advance pipeline objectives.

Qualifications

• PhD/MS/BS in a related field with substantial experience in pharmaceutical development.
• Strong background in solid dosage form development and lab production experience.
• Creative problem solving and ability to champion new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams to deliver robust processes for late-stage small molecule assets.
• Collaborate with functions to integrate scientific objectives into development activities.
• Serve as technical expert, anticipate and resolve problems.
• Design and coordinate experiments to test hypotheses and ensure quality.
• Champion and evaluate new technologies and communicate results clearly.
• Mentor colleagues and share knowledge with peers and management.
• Present complex data to diverse groups; prepare technical reports and submissions.
• Maintain external/internal contacts to meet strategic business needs.
