Job summary

AbbVie in Chicago, IL seeks a Process Engineer for CrySP to develop robust crystallization-based processes for small molecule APIs and ADC-related substances. The role emphasizes hands-on lab process development, scale-up, and cross-functional collaboration.

The ideal candidate has a background in chemical engineering with 8–10+ years of experience, strong communication, and the ability to advance isolation and purification strategies across development stages.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field with extensive industrial experience as described.
• Strong background in chemical engineering and ability to demonstrate skills in this field.
• Ability to learn, understand, and master new experimental techniques.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and strong teamwork.
• Job level commensurate with academic and/or industrial experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop robust scale up and manufacturing processes for small and/or large molecule assets through all development phases.
• Perform laboratory experiments and process modeling to support understanding and optimization.
• Address challenging separations and isolations using thermodynamics, crystallization, transport phenomena, and modeling.
• Author and/or review technical documents summarizing process development efforts.
• Collaborate with organic chemists, analytical chemists, process development, pilot plant engineers, and regulatory specialists.
• Author publications and present at scientific conferences.
