SUMMARY: The Senior Process Engineer’s responsibilities are to collaboratively monitor operating units, provide technical support and troubleshooting, and input of operating strategy of a renewable diesel facility. Other responsibilities are evaluating opportunities for improved efficiency, production throughput and safety in plant and manufacturing facilities. The Senior Process Engineer is also responsible for developing, designing, and planning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned at management’s discretion.
- Review and critique detailed engineering company design submittals, especially heat & material balance (HMB), process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), utility summaries, battery limits schedules, and equipment specifications.
- Develops capital project scope, design and cost benefit analysis.
- Improve upon and optimize existing processes to achieve higher safety, quality, capacity, flexibility, and reduced cost to meet customer expectations.
- Provide senior level engineering capability for process evaluation, optimization of renewable diesel plant operations, project design, start-up, troubleshooting, and testing of process units.
- Perform studies on the effects of operating variables on product quality, yield and profitability.
- Write process specifications for problem solving, optimization, or new projects. These include HMBs, PFDs, and P&IDs, equipment specification, and instrumentation specifications.
- Participate in the implementation of key process safety management programs including Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-Startup Safety Review and Process Safety Information. Lead these activities as needed.
- Lead the development of both small and large capital projects.
- Make recommendations for capital investments throughout Seaboard Energy.
- Partner closely with Production and Maintenance departments to ensure the optimal resolution of operating problems.
REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty/function satisfactorily. - Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering required.
- 7-10 years of experience in oil refining or renewable fuels required.
- Experience in the monitoring and operation of hydrotreating and reforming preferred.
- Previous experience in the development of HMBs, PFDs, and P&IDs required.
- A working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ANSI, ASME, and API required.
- Previous experience with performing pump hydraulics, line sizing, and pump curve evaluation. Ability to size control valves and relief valves preferred.
- Experience developing equipment specifications for equipment such as pumps, vessels, and heat exchangers, and experience evaluation quotations.
- 5 years of experience with Process Safety Management preferred.
- Ability to perform normal Process engineering calculations such as fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required. Experience with CADD is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements for this role include the ability to sit and work on computer-based programs for extended periods, regularly walk, stand, and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The candidate must be able to climb ladders or platforms and enter confined spaces, possess specific vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the candidate must be able to wear all required safety equipment, occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions, which may include extreme heat or cold, and perform regular field walks and control room visits to monitor environmental compliance and improve environmental awareness.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This role involves both office and field work, requiring the ability to sit at a computer, walk, stand, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds. The candidate must be comfortable with climbing, confined spaces, outdoor weather conditions, and wearing necessary safety equipment while monitoring environmental compliance.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Days/M-F. The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Occasional changes in schedule may be required as special circumstances arise. Up to 10% expected travel for turnarounds, outages, emergency response, major projects, team development and maintenance, and site networking.
