SpecCoat specializes in the conformal coating and encapsulation (potting) of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA). To support this growth, the position of Senior Process Engineer is now open in Billerica, MA.

Position: Senior Process Engineer

Job Overview:

SpecCoat is seeking a highly motivated Senior Process Engineer with 5 plus years of experience to join our team in North Billerica, MA. The Senior Process Engineer will play a key role in the scale-up of our conformal coating projects from small scale to high-volume manufacturing. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an engineer to lead conformal coating process and operations procedures while contributing to customers’ innovative projects in the electronics and coating industries.

The ideal candidate will have experience or interest in robotics and automation, particularly with robotic conformal coating equipment, such as PVA or Nordson. However, we are also open to candidates with a strong foundation in engineering principles and a passion for learning in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the scale-up of conformal coating processes from prototype to high-volume production.
• Support the integration and optimization of automated robotic conformal coating systems, specifically PVA Delta 8/Delta 6 conformal coating and liquid masking.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, production, quality assurance) to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Conduct process evaluations and improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
• Assist in the development and documentation of process flows, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
• Perform testing and analysis to ensure product compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes through the application of lean principles and Six Sigma methodologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Plastics, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in a process engineering role
• Familiarity with robotic conformal coating equipment (PVA, Nordson, or similar) is a plus, but not required.
• Familiar with PCB industry and applications desired.
• Familiar with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) practices desired.
• Strong problem-solving skills and an eagerness to learn and grow within the manufacturing field.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with CAD (SOLIDWORKS, Fusion 360 or similar) or process simulation software is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
